Sunshine Coast Council's Blueheart Project
The Sunshine Coast Council's Blueheart Project is described as 'a place, a project and a partnership'. Despite years of back and forth with council, the community and the council officers themselves it seems, are still unsure of what the completion of the project will look like. Initially, the community was told the project was in place to protect critical flood storage areas for the region. After pointing out that quite a few areas within the lines of the project are well out of the floodplain, the project suddenly became a climate change project and land owners were told most of the blueheart area would be below sea level at high tide by 2100. Land owners have already seen floodgates illegally removed, resulting in properties being inundated with salt water, drastic insurance increases where blueheart is listed as the direct cause and property devaluation.

Why are we concerned?
-
Lack of transparency, what does the project aim to achieve?
-
Lack of engagement with land owners living within or adjacent to the Blueheart area
-
The proposed 'Blue Carbon' project and its many catastrophic pitfalls
-
Unreliable data/lack of accurate reports surrounding flooding and climate change effects
-
The including of the 'Blueheart' in the South East Queensland Regional Plan - how will the project effect future planning?
